Firmware 4.3

Post by 2Dog »

Not sure what the use case is for the changes and if it is worth upgrading. What I am waiting for is pitch bending using the elevation IMU.

There are just two new features and 90% of users might not use them. The main one is more flexible mapping of pressure to pitchbend. The other is the ability to extend shake vibrato to CC messages so, for example you can control volume as well as pitch. That feature is in the pressure mapping panel and modifies the current pressure --> CC mapping using the accelerometer.

I tried to update my Warbl2 with the "WARBL2_firmware_4.3.uf2" firmware on a Mac running Sonoma 14.3 and afterwards I cannot connect to it with the configuration tool. I then tried on an old Dell running Windows 11 and it didn't do any better. I both cases I mounted the warbl drive and dragged the file to it.

Is there are archive of the various working releases so I can try those as an experiment? The file size of the 4.3 release is 445440 bytes. If you have a preferred method of producing a checksum I could try that, but here's sha256 if it helps.

% shasum -a 256 ~/Downloads/WARBL2_firmware_4.3.uf2

The configuration tool seems to know that a WARBL is connected as the device menu has both the AUTO and WARBL entries, but it can't connect and shows "WARBL not connected"

I edited the URL to get the 4.1 release and went back to that and things are working again. 4.2 didn't work either.

Let me know if there's anything I can do to help debug this.

Interesting-- I haven't heard of this happening. I just tried reverting to 4.2 and then upgrading to 4.3 again it seems to work. Are you connecting by BLE or USB? After the update you might try powering down the WARBL, closing your browser, turning on the WARBL again, and opening Config Tool again.

My file size is the same as yours so I'm sure you have the correct one.

If it still doesn't work we could try erasing your WARBL completely and starting with a clean install of 4.3, but you would lose your settings and sensor calibration.

I also tried upgrading directly from 4.1 to 4.3 and that seems to work for me too. If you have Bluetooth turned on on any of your devices you might try turning that off just case it's interfering with the USB connection somehow.

Ok I do normally connect to an iPhone via BLE, but was updating from computers via USB. Maybe there is some sort of interference there.

I disabled my iPhone's bluetooth, and then upgraded and it worked fine.

I'm ok with doing that, but maybe it could be a note for the manual, or someone could look into reproducing this time permitting.

Thanks!

Okay, great. I'll add something to the manual. I'm not sure if this is specific to updating the firmware, but in general it can cause some connection issues and/or confusion if the WARBL is connected to BLE on one device and USB on another. Thanks for letting me know about this!
