How much easier is WARBL than bagpipes? Octave range?

Post by danjcla »

Looking around there are many claims that the acoustic bagpipes are the #1, or at least top-3, most difficult instruments to pick up. Many claims of 2 years before not sounding awful, etc.

So, to anyone who also plays acoustic bagpipes: How much easier is the WARBL?

(Nevermind re: octave range, I was just being too lazy in believing a google instasearch answer...)

After years of trying to sound like other acoustic instruments using midi wind-controllers I have come to the conclusion that you have to be skilled and knowledgable on the acoustic instrument first to be musical. It is fairly easy to use a midi wind-controler to trigger bag pipe software or apps but that is it. To be effective I would think it would take about the same time as it takes to learn the acoustic instrument. You maybe able to sound "bagpipeish" sooner. If you notice, the good WARBL bagpipe demo videos are all by people very skilled on the acoustic instrument.
