Hi there,
I play a WARBL by ear, but would also like to learn to read music with the help of the WARBL, to get started.
Is there some PC software that can show the notes I play on the WARBL on screen, on a treble clef stave? And beyond that, can the software show a basic folk tune and highlight the notes as I play them, showing where I get it right and where I get it wrong? Does such a thing exist?
Also, I know the WARBL configuration tool shows the midi note I play in alphabetical form. Can I suggest as an enhancement: that it also shows the note played on a treble clef next to that?
Thank you for any feedback, Tim

Re: Learning basic sheet music with a WARBL
I'm sure there are apps like that though I'm not exactly sure which ones to recommend. It looks like Anvil Studio might have the capability to display notes on the stave and has a free version. The problem you might run into is that a MIDI device like the WARBL can only be connected to one MIDI app at a time on Windows, so you'd need an app that will both produce your desired sound and also display the notes on the stave. There are also a lot of apps that will show the notes on a piano keyboard (SForzando is one), though that is probably not as convenient. Thanks for the suggestion for the Config Tool!
To find an app for learning tunes you might search for "MIDI learning app", or something along those lines. I'm not familiar with any myself, sorry. There are a lot of resources that will play tunes out loud, though, which is also helpful for learning. For Irish music The Session is a tremendous resource that has this capability.

Re: Learning basic sheet music with a WARBL
Thank you Andrew.
I continued my search and eventually found a very simple way to see notes I play on my PC screen...
I just use my WARBL on my IPAD to play the notes, and use this website on my PC, which listens on the PC microphone, and shows the notes on a stave being played in real time.

The second part I wanted (software to show a basic folk tune and highlight the notes as I play them, showing where I get it right and where I get it wrong) doesn't seem to exist. Maybe that's an opportunity for someone...

That looks like a good solution-- thanks for the link! It looks like it would be useful for practicing violin scales too
