Bagpipe Pro + MIDI

Questions discussions about the things that actually make the sound, i.e. MIDI apps, synthesizers, soft synths, etc.

Bagpipe Pro + MIDI

Post by bridgeshome »

Can someone walk me through steps to get the WARBL to work with this app?
I tried the same steps as I use with Celtic Sounds, but Bagpipe Pro + MIDI isn’t recognizing the WARBL (only the fingering on the iPad screen).
Thanks!

Are you sure you have the +MIDI version of the app and not the regular version that looks almost the same? It’s a bit confusing that there are two.

Good morning!
That’s what I purchased, according to app store. Yeah, confusing to have two.
Also, I’m such an old school musician that MIDI continues to trip me up anyway!

Okay, good—is the WARBL working with other apps on that device?

I’ll attach a screenshot of my settings. I think the main thing is to set the Chanter MIDI channel to 1, as shown. You may also have the change the “Chanter lowest MIDI note” so it is within range of the notes WARBL is sending. If you use the settings shown and still aren’t getting any sound, I’m not sure what to suggest, but I’ll continue to give this some thought. If you’re able to attach screenshots of both the app and your Configuration Tool settings, that might help. Thanks!

Sounds good! When you are composing a message, there should be a tab down below that says “attachments”. If you click that you can upload a file.

Changed the settings and working great!
I’m guessing I need to start drones manually?
Thanks,

Great, I’m glad it’s working! You can control the drones with the WARBL using the settings in the Drones Control panel. You choose a channel for the drones that is different than that used for the chanter (so anything other than 1), and set the drones channel in the app to the same. The app responds to any MIDI note less than 80 on the drones channel—you send a “note on” to start the drones and a “note off” to stop them. The MIDI note is “byte 2” in the drones panel. “Byte 3” is the volume of the drones. I’ll attach a screenshot of an example. If you use these settings and set the drones channel in the app to 15, the drones should turn on and off with the chanter.
